Calla Lily

nReferring to the Greek word “beautiful” rarely has a flower had so many different names as the calla lily. The flower also has many different symbols as well as names including beauty, purity and innocence. It grows in a wide range of colours, the most popular being white and used at both funerals and weddings alike. Endemic to South Africa the Calla lily enjoys warm temperatures and grows well in swampy moist areas. When planting though, Cala lilies should be planted loose but in well-drained soil and prefer to be in the sun or partial shade When I create an arrangement using artificial calla lilies I actually prefer to have them as a stand-alone flower but perhaps I may add a touch of leatherleaf or eucalyptus. I did get a request for an artificial black Cala lily arrangement and it created a very mysterious look that worked really well.

nSansevieria

nBeware sansevieria, aka mother in laws tongue or snake plant, pretty much sums this house plant up. Native to Africa, Madagascar and southern Asia, this is a simple and classy houseplant but indestructible and tough, so now you where it gets its name from. Its leaves grow sword-like in appearance with dark green cross-bands running horizontally. It requires little watering, sunlight but will still grow in partial sunlight. People often place it in their bedrooms as it stores up oxygen all day and releases it during the night. You will see I have added some stems of artificial sansevieria to compliment the artificial Calla lillies in this arrangement where I find less is more in this case.
